Mike Watt's cooler than you

Not that there could be any question. He played bass in The Minutemen. If you don't know who the Minutemen are and you like hardcore or metal, you owe it to yourself to take a listen. Double Nickels On The Dime, their double album, is a classic, pretty much the best that 80s hardcore had to offer.

In addition to his other projects (including a solid solo career, and playing bass in the reincarnated Stooges), he recently recorded three tunes with Kaori505 Tsuchida of The Go! Team under the moniker Funanori. I'm not sure, but I'm going to assume that Kaori505 changed her name to match her AOL login. In any case, she's a multi-instrumentalist, and she plays the sanshin (and I assume other instruments), a traditional Japanese stringed instrument, on these songs. The results are great; it sounds like someone interbred The Tom Tom Club and Tortoise, and their offspring have been hanging around Shonen Knife. Only 3 songs, all available from Amazon's excellent new MP3 download service.
